Douglas Designs New Comet Logo for QJHS

​Whether it’s doodling to get his mind off his anxiety and focus more in class, stress relief after a rough week or just for fun, art is a very important part of Noah Douglas’s life. 

​He noticed a love for art in 3rd grade, when Iles Elementary P.E. teacher, Nik Broekemeier would draw with him during his free time. 
That love continued when he got to 5th grade at Denman Elementary, where paraeducator Adam Goings saw some of Noah’s talent, and strongly encouraged him. 
Noah is now a 7th grader at Quincy Junior High School. Towards the end of his 6th grade year, he and his guidance counselor, Jackie Martin, worked out a plan. 
Martin wanted to design a t-shirt/hoodie for the fall that could be used as a fundraiser for the school. She enlisted Noah’s help, as she knew of his interest in art. Together, they found an old Junior High Comet logo. Noah put his artistic skills to work, and redesigned the logo using computer software. 
Martin was impressed with the outcome, and told Noah she would make it happen. When school started this fall, Martin surprised Noah with a hoodie and t-shirt with his design on it. She could tell how grateful he was because he was beaming with pride…Comet pride. 
“I like art because there are no limits,” he says. “And it’s really exciting that a design I worked on will be on clothes that other people get to wear.” 
The shirts and hoodies went on sale this fall for students and staff of Quincy Junior High School.
