Arts Quincy is excited to welcome its newest partner organization, the Adams County Olde Tyme Association! The group maintains the famous Lewis Round Barn, located near the Adams County Fairgrounds outside of Mendon.

The Lewis Round Barn was built in 1914 by Charles E. Lewis to house and feed his livestock. He employed Lambert Huber as the architect, engineer and the building’s foreman. It was a complicated design and the largest barn in the Midwest at the time. It had a wooden stave silo 18-feet in diameter and 40-feet high in the center of the barn. The structure was crowned with a 10-foot high cupola which covered the top ring. The Barn was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
The Old Tyme Association has been in existence since 1988, created to maintain a connection to lifestyles and practices of the past through preservation of buildings and equipment. The Lewis family donated the Barn to the Association and it was saved from being demolished in 1999. In the year 2000, Amish carpenters were hired to dismantle it and rebuild the Barn at its current site near the Fairgrounds.
The Barn was transformed into an agricultural museum. Exhibited on the main floor are turn-of-the-century farm implements, machinery and hand tools. The loft exhibits showcase the work of farm women and include renditions of rooms in a 1930s-era house, a grocery store, a beauty shop and more.
The Barn is open on the second Sunday of the month or by appointment. Call 217-222-0412 or 217-430-8230 for more information. Find the group online at
